About Cassie Ray...
Student Midwife: Cassie Ray
Favorite Birth Quote: "Woman are powerful." “Just as a woman's heart knows how and when to pump, her lungs to inhale, and her hand to pull back from fire, so she knows how and when to give birth” Virginia Di Orio
My story, experience and credentials:
Midwifery was definitely a calling. I have spent all my working years in service and it's always been very fulfilling to me. For many years I planned to go back to school to get my nursing degree. After the birth of my daughter Scarlet I knew there was a shift. I didn't know in what capacity but I knew I needed to serve women and children on a more personal level and in a different capacity. I chose the route of a Licensed Midwife because it's important to me to truly practice the art of midwifery, to help families to make the best decisions for their family and to truly support them in trusting their bodies.
I wrote the following the very first week I jumped with both feet and committed to enrolling in Midwifery school. I wrote it to commemorate this decision, and to help myself always remember "my why." I share it with you to give you a glimpse of who I am and the unique passion I bring to Family Tree Midwifery.
This is why I want to be a Midwife:
I come from a long line of woman who support women. Who serve. A teacher. A businesswoman. A midwife. Fierce women. Spiritual women. Mothers. Wives. Woman who roar. Women who run in packs. Women who honor sisterhood. This is why I want to be a midwife. My great grandmother herself was a Midwife...it's in my blood to follow this calling. This is why I want to be a Midwife.
There is something about a woman surrendering to her body and baby as they work together to reconnect on the outside, complete as two, that I love to bear witness to. There is something powerful about a laboring person who is supported and trusted. There is something about the environment and setting at a home birth that creates comfort and sets the perfect mood, and to be the holder of sacred space right there inside that place calls to me. To keep birth alive. To bear witness. To carry on history. This is why I want to be a Midwife.
I want my girls to know the importance of going after your dreams and doing what you love. After years of just going through the motions, my soul was set on fire and their very lives were part of my own rebirth, and so I pursue this calling with determination, passion and all my heart. This is why I want to be a Midwife.
To protect space. To listen. To believe in her. To let her know she is heard. To watch a spirit awaken. To see life. A family born. This is why I want to be a Midwife.

My favorite part of attending births:
Birth, although the end result is the same it is always different. I love watching how each woman handles birth. Some birth alone, others surrounded by family and loved ones. Some by candlelight and twinkling lights, others in sun kissed rooms with music playing. Some roar, some silent, all strong and amazing. I love seeing how each family prepares physically, emotionally and spiritually throughout the prenatal time. I love witnessing the love at first sight - that pause when baby lands in mamas arms and the whole world seems to stand still...(all while us Midwives are watching mindfully over mama and baby.) There is something magic, sacred, special I take away from each birth I attend and I am so grateful for the opportunity to witness and serve women on their paths to motherhood.
I hope we get the chance to meet in the near future!
